Dr. Malhotra is the Director of Practitioner and International Development and an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Malhotra graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Lake Forest College. She then continued on to receive her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with an emphasis in Primary Care at the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center and a Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice Residency at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. Dr. Malhotra was an Assistant Professor in Pharmacy Practice at the University of the Incarnate Word and an Assistant Professor in Pharmacy Practice and the Experiential Education Director at Regis University School of Pharmacy. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy, she served as the Psychiatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for the Behavioral Health Services and in the Managed Care department at the Denver Health Medical Center.
As the Director of Practitioner and International Development for the school, she is responsible for leading communication and relationship-building with international contacts, promoting international academic programs, serving as a liaison with local and international pharmacy faculty to develop didactic and/or experiential curricula, coordinating the clinical training and development of international faculty, and coordinating the development of site-specific international programs.
Dr. Malhotra’s experience in global health started early in her career with the opportunity to collaborate and present at Clinical Pharmacy Week in Austria. She also participated in medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Jamaica. As Director of Practitioner and International Development, she has coordinated the development and implementation of the new ACPE-accredited Internationally-Trained PharmD (ITPD) Program, assisted with curriculum development and served as a visiting professor at the Istanbul Kemerburgaz University School of Pharmacy, established an interprofessional APPE rotation at a new medical facility operated by the Colorado School of Public Health in Guatemala. Additionally, she led the development of an international visiting scholars program, and co-coordinated the visit of guests through the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s Pharmabridge program since 2016. She has created training programs for pharmacists around the world, including a PharmD program in Cairo, an ambulatory care training program in Qatar, and a preceptor development program that has been offered in multiple international settings.
Dr. Malhotra’s teaching focuses primarily on psychiatric pharmacy, global health, and patient centered communication. She teaches in the school’s traditional and distance-based programs. Dr. Malhotra has served in leadership roles on local, state, national, and international committees, including president of the Colorado Pharmacist Society, Colorado Pharmacist Society CE Committee chair, 9Healthfair Medical Advisory Committee, College of Psychiatry and Neurological Pharmacists’ Programming Committee chair, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Nominations Committee co-chair, American College of Clinical Pharmacy Global Health PRN chair, and International Pharmacy Federation Academic Pharmacy Section Working Group project lead, . She is a member of the Colorado Pharmacists Society (CPS), International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), College of Psychiatric and Neurological Pharmacists (CPNP), American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).
