Faculty Resources

The Admissions Committee shall consist of at least five faculty members, four students, one pharmacy professional and one alumnus and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to oversee admissions policies and procedures for the Doctor of Pharmacy program. In so doing, the admissions committee will evaluate and recommend changes in admissions policy and review all applicants to assure acceptance of qualified candidates into the PharmD program.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Establish criteria to review applications for admission to the entry-level PharmD program and recommend admission of qualified applicants to the Dean.
2. Advise and support distance degrees and programs admissions.
3. Utilize an admissions process that meets accreditation standards and prepare the requisite reports in a timely fashion.
4. Maintain and apply a data-driven, analytic approach to evaluate existing admissions policies and procedures and recommend appropriate changes to the faculty and dean.
5. Implement changes in admissions policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the admissions process.
6. Explore opportunities for participation of the pharmacy practice community in the admissions process.

The Assessment Committee shall consist of at least five faculty members, four students, and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to assess teaching and learning in the curriculum by creating an assessment plan and reviewing assessment activities. As a secondary goal, the committee will assist administration to define objective and subjective measures of performance for other School missions.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Create an assessment plan that meets accreditation standards, pursue a realistic timetable for achieving the assessment plan and prepare requisite reports in a timely fashion.
2. Take a scholarly approach to identify, evaluate and recommend improvements in assessment instruments and methods to assure quality assessment and advancement of learning in the curriculum.
3. Develop assessment matrices for achieving: student learning and mastery, curricular quality and teaching evaluation process
4. Student learning and mastery: evaluate appropriateness of course-embedded assessments for linkage to curricular ability-based outcomes, and evaluate student learning based on these assessments.
5. Assess data from external assessments of curricular quality (e.g. ACPE/AACP surveys, NAPLEX results, etc.) and forward to pertinent stakeholders.
6. Assure that the assessment process supports ongoing curricular review by the Curriculum Committee.

The Awards & Scholarship Committee shall consist of at least three faculty members, one pharmacy professional, one alumnus and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to determine the students who best meet the criteria for awards and scholarships.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Development and dissemination of written policies for naming student recipients of School of Pharmacy awards and scholarships.
2. Recommend to the faculty and dean appropriate students to receive academic and/or professional practice or service awards and scholarships.
3. Review ad hoc requests from other awarding groups (Professional groups, University, Dean’s office) and recommend to the faculty and dean appropriate nominees.
4. Maintain a calendar (including deadlines) for internal and external awards that specifies times for requests (e.g., letters to donors for funds), applications and invitations to donors to awards ceremonies (where applicable).

The Pharmacy Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) Committee shall consist of at least two faculty members, one alumnus, three pharmacy professionals, another CE coordinator, and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to improve pharmacist skills and competencies to ensure optimal medication therapy outcomes and patient safety, manage practice settings and satisfy educational requirements for re-licensure.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Determine the educational needs of pharmacists in Colorado, across the nation and internationally.
2. Develop innovative, revenue-generating educational programs for pharmacists and technicians.
3. Engage pharmacists in Colorado through partnerships with Colorado institutions/groups – e.g., CPS, RxPlus, VA, Children’s Hospital CO, UCH.
4. Maintain a competitive fee structure for internal and external partners.
5. Meet ACPE accreditation standards for continuing pharmacy education programs and prepare the requisite self-study in a timely fashion.

The Curriculum Committee shall consist of at least six faculty members, four students, one representative of the pharmacy practice community, and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to implement a systematic curricular review process that ensures all curricular offerings support the mission of the School and PharmD curriculum and enables the curriculum to remain contemporary and meet expectations of the profession.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Optimize the PharmD curriculum
   1. Decrease curricular overload by decreasing overall credit hours, eliminating unintended redundancies, aligning existing credit hours with commensurate contact hours, and strengthening connections between courses.
   2. Identify and implement early steps at harmonizing the entry-level PharmD program and distance degree programs.
   3. Provide SSPPS faculty with guidance, best practices, and recommendations (including clarification of common terminology) for course delivery.
   4. Provide guidance, best practices, and recommendations (in collaboration with the Assessment Committee) for course assessments (e.g., quizzes, examinations).
   5. Provide suggestions to the Associate Dean for Education for faculty development opportunities related to curriculum (e.g., writing multiple choice questions, course director responsibilities, Canvas template).
   6. Respond to contemporary curricular issues that arise in an efficient and timely manner.
   6. Form and charge working groups as needed to explore content threads and identify curricular opportunities (e.g., research, diversity/equity/inclusion, leadership, technology, entrepreneurship, medication dispensing/administration skills).

    

2. Identify current SSPPS documents and website information related to curricular “threads”, “domains”, “themes of strength”, and “pillars”. Review and make recommendation to the SSPPS faculty for one clear and united message regarding our curriculum.

    

3.  Support the school in submitting a strong ACPE self-study with regard to Standards 1-4 and 10-13.

    

4. Discuss needs assessment for implementation of new or modified ability-based outcomes and curricular mapping after the publication of COEPA.

   
   

    

   
   

Distance Degrees and Programs Committee shall consist of at least three faculty members, one student, one alumnus, one pharmacy professional, and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to promote excellence for students in the NTPD educational program, by providing strategic policy recommendations and enhancing coordination of the curriculum with the School’s entry-level PharmD program. There is a Credit-by-Challenge subcommittee that is charged with the review of suitability of students’ materials for credit.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Develop and implement policies for the North American-Trained (NTPD) and International-Trained (ITPD) PharmD Programs as approved by the faculty and the dean.
2. Assure the NTPD and ITPD Programs meet ACPE (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education), NCA-HLC (North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission) accreditation standards and prepare requisite reports in a timely fashion.
3. Review the suitability of students’ materials for transfer of credit within the curriculum.
4. In collaboration with the Assessment Committee and utilizing the Assessment Committee’s recommended metrics, conduct continuing evaluation, quality management, enhancement, and recommend revisions to the NTPD and ITPD Programs’ assessment plans regarding learning outcomes and teaching effectiveness.
5. In collaboration with the Curriculum Committee and utilizing the Curriculum Committee’s documents, develop and recommend NTPD and ITPD Program curricular and pedagogical revisions to assure optimal student learning and outcomes while in alignment with the entry-level PharmD program.
6. In collaboration with the Admissions Committee, review and propose changes to the admissions policies (in a manner that is appropriate for the NTPD and ITPD Programs) when considering admission entry criteria and procedures.
7. Advise the Experiential Education Committee regarding issues and policies affecting the NTPD and ITPD Program student populations.

The Experiential Education Committee shall consist of at least four faculty members, four students, two preceptors, the director of experiential programs (ex-officio, non-voting), two assistant directors of experiential education (ex-officio), the associate dean for professional education (ex officio, non-voting), and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to foster the highest quality experiential education in the professional program and to review and recommend policies, standards, and development of practice sites, preceptors, and students.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Develop and implement policies for experiential programs as approved by the faculty and the dean.
2. Review accreditation standards for experiential programs on an annual basis for preparation of requisite reports as developed by the Dean’s office.
3. Evaluate data from external assessments of experiential activities for continuous quality improvement.
4. Assure that the experiential assessment process supports ongoing review by the Assessment and Curriculum Committees.

 

The Scholastic Advancement and Appeals Committee (SAAC) shall consist of at least five faculty members, and reports to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to monitor students’ progression through the School’s academic programs and make recommendations concerning advancement, suspension or dismissal of students from the professional program. Representatives from experiential, NTPD, and the skills series may be asked to attend committee meetings as students familiar to them are presented.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Develop, revise, and implement policies for student advancement and appeals in the Pharm.D. program as approved by the faculty and the dean.
2. Conduct a targeted assessment of key changes to the scholastic advancement and appeals policy to determine the impact of implemented changes, e.g. dismissals, academic standing, track and assess progression of students with academic improvement plans (AIPs) to determine the effectiveness of the AIP process.
3. Monitor academic standards within the Doctor of Pharmacy program and make recommendations to the faculty and the dean regarding processes by which the development, monitoring and implementation of academic standards within the School can be improved.

The Student Ethics and Conduct Committee (SECC) shall consist of at least four faculty members and four students, and report to the faculty and administration. The committee is a standing faculty committee in the School charged by the Dean to examine alleged violations of the Student Ethics and Conduct Code and to make recommendations for action to the associate dean for academic affairs.

Charges to the Committee:

1. Evaluate incident reports for suspected violations to the Student Ethics and Conduct Code and recommend appropriate action to the associate dean for academic affairs.
2. Develop, review and propose to the faculty, dean and students modifications of the Student Ethics and Conduct Code.
