Dean

Brian Tsuji, PharmD, is a licensed pharmacist and an internationally recognized clinician-scientist. Before taking on the role of Dean at CU Pharmacy, he served the University at Buffalo (UB) in New York for more than two decades, as Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Sciences, Linda Edelman Endowed Chair in Experimental Therapeutics, and Head of the Division of Clinical and Translational Therapeutics in the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, Infectious Diseases Society of America and Society of Critical Care Medicine, and he is Past-President of the International Society of Antimicrobial Pharmacology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Tsuji has been known for bringing energy, creativity and a relentless commitment to collaboration in research, training, clinical service and leadership. He is renowned for his work to develop new therapeutics to combat antibiotic-resistant “superbugs,” and for leading the international consensus dosing guidelines for the polymyxin antibiotics, which have been adopted by hospitals across the U.S. and worldwide. He leads two of the largest NIH R01 grants at UB as principal investigator, employing a “team science” approach to combat the public health threat of antimicrobial resistance and improve the care of patients.

Dr. Tsuji built the UB Division of Clinical and Translational Therapeutics from the ground up by assembling interdisciplinary teams of PharmD, PhD and MD investigators, scientists and students to tackle the world’s most pressing public health challenges. He led the creation of the first MS in Clinical and Translational Therapeutics in the country and an NIH T35 program focused on training next-generation clinician scientists in partnership with the School of Medicine ‒ reflecting his commitment to innovation in education and training across the health sciences.
