Joseph Saseen is Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and a Professor of Family Medicine. He also served as Vice Chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy for 10 years. Dr. Saseen has responsibilities for enhancing the school’s clinical enterprise, further developing sustainable clinical service models, and advocating for advancing the practice of pharmacy in the State of Colorado.

Dr. Saseen is a clinical pharmacist at the University of Colorado Health focusing on cardiovascular risk reduction and population health. He teaches cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and other topics related to primary care and has been the PGY2 Ambulatory Care residency program director since 1998. His scholarly work includes almost 200 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr. Saseen was the lead author for the American College of Clinical Pharmacy 2017 guideline on Clinical Pharmacists Competencies, was a member of the writing group for the 2018 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology cholesterol management guidelines, and the 2022 National Lipid Association Statin Intolerance Scientific Statement.

He enjoys presenting continuing education on the topics of dyslipidemia and hypertension at local, national, and international pharmacy and medical meetings. As a legal consultant, he has work on cases related to medication use, and has been an expert witness on legal cases including civil, criminal, malpractice, and patent claim. Dr. Saseen is Immediate Past President of the National Lipid Association (NLA). He is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health-system Pharmacists, American Pharmacists Association, the American Heart Association, and the NLA.
