Dr Julio Aguado obtained his PhD in 2018 from the European School of Molecular Medicine (University of Milan) as a Marie Curie fellow of the European Union where he investigated the role of telomere non-coding RNAs generated upon induction of DNA damage during aging. He has published several first-author papers on mechanisms of aging in journals including Nature Communications, Nature Aging, Nature Protocols and Aging Cell. Dr Aguado's laboratory at the University of Colorado is centered in the study of human brain aging and how viral infections accelerate this process, including induced neurotoxicity and chronic inflammation.
Dr Aguado's research has been supported by grants, funds and fellowships from the NHMRC (Australia), the Children's Hospital Foundation (Australia), the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation (France), the IBSA Foundation for scientific research (Switzerland), the American Cancer Society (USA), the University of Colorado Cancer Center (USA) and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (USA).
