Clinical Activities

Dr. Gilliam has been a practicing emergency medicine pharmacist for more than 10 years. After completing his residency training, Dr. Gilliam expanded clinical pharmacy services to support emergency medicine and rapid response teams at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii (2009-2013). Since that time, Dr. Gilliam has developed a clinical faculty site in the Emergency Department at the Denver Health Medical Center where he continues to practice as a part-time staff member.

Clinical/Research Interests

Emergency department patient safety and medication system use; Implementation and justification of clinical pharmacy services within emergency medical teams; Emergency preparedness; Interprofessional Clinical Education


Dr. Gilliam’s scholarly interest focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning, specifically curriculum design and assessment within the context of experiential education and interprofessional education. He is also very interested in professional identity formation and cultivating reflective capacity within health profession students.
