Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Solid Organ Transplant Pharmacy Residency

The University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) is a 678-bed tertiary academic medical center on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Transplant Center at UCHealth has been a leader in solid organ transplant since performing the first liver transplant in 1963. The care team provides multi-disciplinary care for kidney, pancreas, liver, lung, and heart transplant recipients. Additionally, the Transplant Center participates in several prospective, clinical trials on an annual basis.

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Application

Interested applicants meeting the above criteria should electronically submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, academic transcripts, and three letters of recommendation through ASHP’s Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS). PhORCAS is the required method of applying for this program. Please contact the Residency Program Director at [email protected] for any questions concerning the application process.

Caroline Simko, PharmD

Caroline Simko grew up in Canton, MI. She completed her undergraduate studies at Grand Valley State University and earned her PharmD from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Following pharmacy school, she completed her PGY-1 pharmacy residency at UW Medicine in Seattle, WA, where she discovered her passion for caring for transplant patients. She is very excited to continue her PGY-2 training in solid organ transplant at the University of Colorado! While she does not currently have a specific organ focus, she is eager to rotate through all organs transplanted at UCHealth / University of Colorado to further refine her interests. In her free time, Caroline enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, traveling, going to concerts, and spending time with her two cats. She is looking forward to the 300 days of sun and the wide variety of outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer. Caroline will be collaborating with faculty at SSPPS throughout the year by contributing to lectures, presentations, and classroom-based activities.
