Non-Degree Seeking Students

Non-degree students are required be proficient in the English language, as detailed in the technical standards. As such, all applicants will demonstrate English language proficiency by meeting one of the following items:

• Earned a bachelor of science in pharmacy from an ACPE/CCAPP accredited U.S. or Canadian school of pharmacy (excluding Quebec).
• Earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Canada (excluding Quebec).
• Complete an evaluation of English proficiency by taking either the internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or academic-based International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. NOTE: Exam scores completed within two years of the application deadline date will be accepted.
  • For Applicants Who Earned a BS in Pharmacy outside the U.S. – Applicants having passed the FPGEC can use TOEFL scores that were used for the FPGEC to fulfill the English language proficiency requirements. The applicant must submit the unofficial TOEFL score report and the scores must meet or exceed the minimum TOEFL scores outlined below.
• TOEFL Score Requirements – Applicants must achieve a minimum composite score of 89 on the internet-based TOEFL exam taken within the past two years. The required minimum scores on each of the individual components of the test are: listening 20, speaking 22, and writing 21.
• TOEFL Essentials Score Requirements – Applicants must achieve a minimum overall band score of 9 on the TOEFL Essentials exam taken within the past two years. The required minimum scores on each of the individual components of the test are: listening 9, speaking 9 and writing 9.
  • * If the applicant scores an 8 in any of the three sections (including the overall band score) they will be required to take an ACTFL OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) and must score an ADV LOW or higher on the OPI to meet language requirement.
• IELTS Score Requirements – Applicants must achieve a minimum composite score of 6.5 on the IELTS taken within the past two years. The required minimum scores on each of the individual components of the test are: listening 6.5, speaking 7.0 and writing 6.0.
• Exam Score Date – Exam scores cannot be older than two years from the program application deadline date. If the applicant took the exam more than two years ago, then the applicant will need to retake the exam to complete the admissions process. Case-by-case exceptions will be considered.
• The DDP committee may request an applicant complete the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) on a case-by-case basis, and with the requirement that a level of Advanced Low be achieved.

Non-degree seeking students, who completed DDP doctorate-level coursework with a grade C+ or higher, may transfer their DDP coursework into the following program: 

• North American-Trained PharmD (NTPD) Program – 16 credit hours may transfer into the NTPD program.
