PharmD Program

As a student at CU Pharmacy, you’ll be immersed in educational settings that will give you a mix of classroom settings, opportunities to develop technical pharmacy skills and hands-on experience in our dynamic field. That’s because our curriculum includes didactic, professional skills and experiential learning opportunities. We require three years of pre-professional studies prior to entering our program. Those pre-requisites may be completed at any accredited college or university.

The PharmD curriculum includes courses in fields that are rapidly expanding within the profession of pharmacy such as Pharmacogenomics, Clinical Decision Making, Public Health and Outcomes, and Evidence Based Medicine. That means you’ll learn about the latest health trends in pharmacy from top experts in the field.

Ready to apply the knowledge you learn in the classroom to real patient care settings? The first three years of the Experiential Program are dedicated to the introductory pharmacy practice experience program (IPPE). Students begin by exploring community pharmacy and engaging in service learning activities. Community pharmacy practice continues into year two, while students also explore health system-based pharmacy practice. The health-system based experience continues through the P3 year, along with opportunities to work alongside medical providers in clinics and ambulatory care settings. The IPPE program culminates with a six-week advanced-IPPE (aIPPE) rotation in the P3 year, with direct patient care activities. The fourth year of the curriculum is devoted to advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE), which allow students to apply classroom skills and knowledge to patients in actual practice settings.
