After graduating from the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy Meghan completed a pharmacy practice residency with Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, Utah and a specialty residency in infectious diseases at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She made a quick pit stop in clinical practice before joining the faculty at Roseman University in Nevada. Here she learned to teach and developed a love for innovating infectious diseases education. Now at University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy she continues to teach infectious diseases and clinical problem solving where she regularly uses gamification including escape rooms, puzzles, ID Gin Rummy, and BugOut!.
Her practice site is the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) where she precepts students and residents on Antimicrobial Stewardship and ID consults rotations. As a member of the UCH Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee her recent projects include development and implementation of “cefazolin for all” surgical site infection prophylaxis, and revision of Gram-positive treatment pathways that liberalized restrictions on linezolid and daptomycin.
Dr. Jeffres is serious about service to the profession. She has served as a board member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, a current board member of MAD-ID, the Chair of Antimicrobial Stewardship Track at the Spring SHEA Meeting, and co-founder of the Infectious Diseases Educator Network. She is a regular on stage at national and local meeting alike including Colorado Pharmacists Society, CO-ID Symposium, and Bugs & Drugs. Common topics include antibiotic allergies, antibiotic resistance, and active learning/gamification.

2024 - Gita Patel Best Practice Award Awarded by the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacist to recognize an SIDP member who has implemented and documented the impact of an innovative or collaborative “best practice” initiative to improve care in patients with infectious diseases. The award was based on the practice changes made secondary to my research and education about antibiotic allergies.
2021 - President's Excellence in Teaching Award Award selected by the graduating class of 2021 in acknowledgement of a faculty member's outstanding, innovative, and inspirational contributions to the students' professional development.
2016 – National Alliance of State Pharmacy Association (NASPA) Excellence in Innovation Award Award based on innovations in teaching and continuing education programs.
2013 – Innovations in Teaching award recipient from the American Associate of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Award based on the creation and utilization of physical and online solitary card games for students to study infectious diseases fundamentals.
